Co:Create FAQ
The image you purchased should have all of the information regarding that piece of flash. (i.e. sizing, placement allowance, etc.)
The purchase is valid for an appointment. There is absolutely a limited amount of time you can cash in your purchase. It’d be chaos for me if the digital version had an open ended actual tattoo date. So I’ve specified that timing on the digital item. It’s usually within two months. The only allowance for extending the time is if either you or I get sick or have a family emergency, of course.
How do I setup (or schedule) an appointment?
Please visit the following URL to choose what date is available: http://davidallen.apptoto.com - once you select your date, that slot is yours. You’ll be connected to my calendar and will receive reminders. Thank you!

Additional/tattoo related questions
Can we take breaks?
Absolutely! I love breaks. They let my body stretch and my eye see the piece from afar. I usually take a short break every 45 minutes.
Tell me more about your equipment? Is it safe?
Of course, it’s important to be as clean and safe as possible. All of my needles are one time use: prepackaged and sterilized. The needles are grouped together and within a cartridge system. This system helps prevent accidental snags, fluid splashes, and cross contamination. I also use a rotary based machine, a Cheyenne Sol Nova. It keeps the process relatively quiet.
What if I’m in pain? How painful is it?
You will be in a little pain! But I assure you, I’m pretty light handed. Tattoo ink only needs to reach the dermis. Which is about 1.5-2mm deep. I’m careful and precise, which results in a less painful tattoo for sure. That being said, I tend to avoid tattooing sensitive areas such as the ribs or sternum.
What type of needle groupings do you use?
I create 95% of my tattoos with a 3 round liner. It’s relatively gentle and enables multi passes of drawing on the skin.
Is tipping customary?
It is. But it’s also not expected. Like, at all. If you enjoy the process and service, you’re welcome to tip! But please don’t feel obligated at all.
How long have you been tattooing?
I’ve been tattooing since 2005. I started in a street shop in Indiana, and slowly worked my way up to a private studio in Chicago.
Is pricing negotiable?
Nope, pricing is not negotiable.
Can I get another tattoo while I’m there?
Unfortunately, you cannot. I want to be able to give you 100% of my time, skill, and energy. So i do my best to honor us both by limiting the day.
Do I need ID?
Yes, you’ll have to fill out a state consent form for sure. Please bring ID.
How long will it take to tattoo?
It really depends! I don’t charge based on time. I never, ever rush or aim for speed, but I am super efficient. Tattooing scar tissue for so many years, has me hyper efficient with healthy skin. The longest session I’ve had for these was 5 hours. However, the majority of these take anywhere from 2-4 hours.
Can we edit or tweak the design?
I can edit small elements for sure, but I won’t be adding extra elements: initials, hidden images, etc.
What if I’ve never gotten a tattoo before?
I can help! Over 50% of my clients are first timers. I can talk you through the entire process and help allay any anxiety or fear.
Can I use numbing cream or lidocaine?
Unfortunately, no. It dampens how the skin vibrates for me. The vibration is how I know the proper depth. It’ll serve us best if you please avoid any type of numbing agent.
What type of ink do you use?
I use Kuro Sumi black. That’s it. I swear by it.
Can I bring someone with me to the appointment?
Of course! You’re welcome to bring up to 2 people with you. If you want to bring more, please just ask so I can accommodate.
