Getting Started
How to Calibrate a Photo
Capture or Select - Take a new photo or choose one from your library
Place Two Points - Tap on two points of a known distance in your photo (like the edges of a coin or credit card)
Set the Distance - Enter the real-world distance between those points, or select a reference object
Export - Save your calibrated image at 300 DPI for accurate printing
Reference Objects
TrueScale includes built-in measurements for common reference objects:
US Quarter - 24.26mm diameter
Credit Card - 85.60mm long edge
Place your reference object in the photo, mark its edges, and TrueScale calculates the scale automatically.
Tips for Best Results
Taking Photos
Photograph straight down (perpendicular to the surface)
Avoid angles that create perspective distortion
Ensure good, even lighting
Include a reference object of known size
Placing Calibration Points
Zoom in for precise point placement
Touch and hold a point to drag it for fine adjustments
Use two fingers to pan when zoomed in
Double-tap to toggle zoom
Printing
Print at 100% scale (no "fit to page")
Use 300 DPI print settings
Verify with a ruler on your first print
Frequently Asked Questions
Does TrueScale upload my photos?
No. All processing happens on your device. Your photos never leave your phone.
What DPI does TrueScale use?
TrueScale resamples images to 300 DPI, which is the standard for high-quality printing.
Why is my exported image larger/smaller than the original?
TrueScale adjusts the pixel dimensions so that when printed at 300 DPI, the image matches real-world size. If your original photo had lower resolution, the file may be larger.
Can I use any object as a reference?
Yes! Use "Manual Entry" to enter any known distance. Just measure two points in your photo with a ruler and enter that measurement.
What units are supported?
TrueScale supports both inches and centimeters. Change your preference in Settings.
The print size seems wrong. What should I check?
Ensure you photographed straight down, not at an angle
Verify your reference measurement is correct
Make sure you're printing at 100% scale, not "fit to page"
Check that your printer is set to 300 DPI
