Tattoo Aftercare

*Hand washing is the single most important method of reducing infection

Care for tattoo covered with simple bandage (plastic wrap)

  • Leave your bandage on for 2-4 hours.

  • After removal of bandage, wash thoroughly with hot water and a mild, unscented soap.

  • Pat dry with clean paper towel.

  • Apply a thin layer of ointment.

Use Aquaphor for the first 2-3 days then switch to a regular, fragrance free lotion.
*A higher-end product is Restore Healing Balm - it’s not petroleum based

Keep your tattoo clean with soap and water.
Avoid soaking in water of any kind.
Repeat this process for a week or two depending on how the tattoo looks. It will peel, or flake (like a sunburn) after a few days.

If you have any concerns your tattoo might be infected, please contact your physician immediately!

Care for tattoo covered with Tegaderm

Leave your bandage on up to 4 days. It’s waterproof and bacteria proof but still lets the skin breathe!
If the bandage starts to peel off on its own due to wear and tear, enough to begin exposing your tattoo, go ahead and take off the bandage.

  • Removing Tegaderm can be tricky. Warm water running over it helps.

  • After removal of bandage, wash thoroughly with hot water and a mild, unscented soap.

  • Pat dry with clean paper towel.

  • Apply a thin layer of ointment.
