Spider on Her Shoulder

This lady wanted the classic flash spider on her shoulder. Instead of trying to thicken the legs and add highlights, I just wanted to get the shape. The drop shadow is a quick and light grey wash.

Lips

A lip print of his girlfriend tattooed on a guy's right trapezius muscle.

There is one predominant color - obviously, red. But I also mixed a darker red with the standard red to push a slight dimension... you know, for effect. Then another subtle mix of the standard red with some white to finalize it with hints for lighter areas.

Polynesian Inspired

He wanted something inspired by Polynesian tattoos to go directly around and over an older tattoo that meant a lot to him. So I pieced this piece together by bombarding myself with about 10 Polynesian tattoos. Then, I put those aside and worked with direct shapes and forms in Photoshop.

Photoshop example of sketch layered under the formation of shapes. Photoshop example of design with guide lines.

Dale - Arm band

I used dark variations of the colors for the actual band to keep it tradition but still feminine.

Lady

This dog piece was a welcome walk-in. She had a rough/noisy photo of her lab, which I scanned into Photoshop and brought out the highlights that were available. Lady's snout is long, so the point was to get the exact head shape and see what I could do.

It seems Lady isn't doing so well, so we'll touch up and complete the banner with the date of her death on the empty right side.

Stars and stuff

This is a small flash piece on a women's ribs. Every tattoo is a chance to learn more. With this one I messed around mixing some subtle colors to darken the blues. Nothing big, but I'm trying to learn how far a fade should go initially so it'll look right in the end. After blending another color into it, that fade looks different. So trying to get a mental handle on what it may look like beforehand will be helpful.

Koi Session - In Progress

View from a distance

I used an 11 for the first time today on this koi. The first twenty minutes was like riding wobbly with no training wheels, but once I trusted my hand motions (circles), I enjoyed the extra coverage.

Arm Tribal

tribalgreen.jpg

This guy is from Las Vegas. He's hilarious. My first tattoo on him was covering up a name on his chest. Nice. He came back in with this image printed out from the internet. I scanned it real quick into Photoshop, resized the image and pulled outlines with the Stroke function after selecting it with the Magic Wand.

He didn't want it black. But wanted something close to the dark green color really old tattoos used to fade into. So we went with dark green with 3 drops of black mixed in. It wasn't black, so I had to work with some really slow circles to drive the ink in.

Bernini's David - In Progress

Session Two - In progress stuff. It's on my left (practice) leg. Here's the post about it.
