Tipping Signs

sexytipping.jpgDo you have to tip your tattoo artist? Nope. But if you like what you were just given, a tip can be more than just a social custom. It's an incredibly personal gift that goes beyond the daily grind to reach out and softly massage the heart of your artist.

Okay, not really. But they sure are nice!

I got my first tattoo at 18 and the last thing on my mind was giving a tip. So I'm going to design a couple of handsome signs for our shop.

"All Tippers Go to Heaven" - that sort of thing.

Some shops will post them, some won't feel comfortable. Whatever the case, I'll design them and post them free online when I'm finished.

Any brilliant tipping phrases come to mind?

It may be a Denver/LA differential (the only tattoo markets I'm familiar with), but my artist charges so much less than I expect for so much better work, that I typically come close to doubling the price with my tips.

I figure the price pays the bills, but the tip says how you really feel about your new tattoo.

I think tipping is great and although I come from a country where tipping is not mandatory, I tip on top of the service charge and taxes when the service is good.

Tipping jars are a great idea. But I despise the "instant karma" signs on the jars. It's just so wrong to mix the spiritual with something so capitalist and commercial.

Cute signs- yes. "Instant Karma"- I dont think so.

I always tip my artist. Also, sometimes I like to give her presents, too. Just to mix things up a bit. Especially if it's something you know they'll like.

What about "Tip for Tat?"

heehee.

I always tip, but I never know how much to tip. And after I leave, I can't decided if I gave enough. For the most part, I give about a 30-35% tip, but the tattoo is so important, that I would never have enough money to give the proper tip. I mean, the tattoo artist just gave me a gift to last a lifetime. How can a few bucks ever tell him/her how thankful I am for their art?

I used "tip us, not cows" at the coffeeshop for a while...
